Farmers and herders in Gombe State have been urged to continue living peacefully with one another to promote development and strengthen security across the state.
The Chairman of the White Paper Implementation Committee on Grazing Reserves, Dr Ardo Chindo Abubakar, made the call while addressing farmers and herders in Kwami and Dukku Local Government Areas of Gombe State.
Dr Ardo Chindo, who led the committee’s delegation, urged farmers and herders to support government efforts aimed at improving their welfare and maintaining peaceful coexistence.
He also called on the people to reciprocate the state government’s efforts by supporting all APC candidates in the 2027 elections, particularly Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya in his bid for the Gombe North Senatorial seat and Dr Jamilu Isyaku Gwamna in the governorship election.
The committee chairman announced a new initiative to collect data on cattle owners and herders across the state, with the aim of establishing their identities and helping to identify and reduce the influx of unidentified foreigners into Gombe State.
He assured farmers and herders that the committee would continue working with relevant stakeholders to create a conducive environment for agricultural activities and peaceful coexistence.
Speaking separately, the Chairman of Kwami Local Government, Alhaji Ibrahim Buba, and the Chairman of Dukku Local Council Development Area, Alhaji Damina Sardauna, commended the committee’s initiative, describing it as an important step towards finding lasting solutions to conflicts between farmers and herders.
In their goodwill messages, the Emir of Dukku, Alhaji Haruna Abdulkadir Rashid, and the Senior District Head of Kwami, Alhaji Aminu Haruna Abdullahi, urged farmers and herders to give maximum support and cooperation to the committee to achieve its objectives.
The traditional rulers also pledged the support of traditional institutions and promised to contribute to efforts aimed at promoting lasting peace in Gombe State and beyond.
