…Says His Government Is Working to End Economic Hardship

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has blamed the opposition for the hunger and poverty confronting Nigerians, insisting that his administration is working to address the economic challenges facing the country.
Tinubu made the remarks on Saturday at the APC presidential campaign flag-off in Kaduna, where he defended his administration’s efforts to improve the welfare of Nigerians.
“I hear my opponent talk about hunger and poverty. Who created it? They did. They created poverty; they created hunger. We are trying to eradicate it,” the President said.
Tinubu also defended his government’s record on workers’ welfare, citing the regular payment of salaries as evidence of ongoing efforts to improve economic conditions.
“We pay salaries regularly. Our governors are working,” he added.
The President’s remarks come amid continuing public concerns over the rising cost of living, food prices and the economic difficulties confronting households across the country.
His comments also brought the debate over responsibility for Nigeria’s economic challenges into focus as political parties begin preparations for the 2027 general elections.
While Tinubu attributed the hardship to the opposition, he maintained that his administration was taking steps to tackle hunger and poverty, presenting the performance of his government and APC-led states as part of its response to the challenges.
The Kaduna rally marks a significant campaign event for the ruling APC as it seeks to mobilise support ahead of the next presidential election.
