Three personnel of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) have been killed in a deadly attack by suspected bandits along the Tsamiya–Illo road in Bagudo Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
The incident, which occurred at about 12:55 p.m. on June 4, happened while the officers were on official duty along the busy route, according to security sources.
It was gathered that the armed assailants laid an ambush on the patrol team, forcing the officers to attempt an escape upon sighting the attackers. However, the gunmen, said to be riding on motorcycles, pursued them and opened fire, killing three personnel.
The victims were identified as Deputy Chief Road Marshal Assistant (DCRMA) Umar Aliyu, Senior Road Marshal Assistant (SRMA) Ezra Manu Gona, and Road Marshal Assistant I (RMA I) Mansur Ibrahim Nasir.
Security sources described the attack as shocking and said it has heightened tension in the area, with residents and security operatives expressing concern over rising insecurity along the corridor.
Following the incident, authorities have reportedly advised FRSC personnel and other security operatives in the area to exercise maximum caution while ongoing security assessments are carried out.
The motive behind the attack remains unclear as of the time of filing this report, while efforts are underway to track down the perpetrators and unravel the circumstances surrounding the deadly ambush.
Meanwhile, security agencies have intensified surveillance and patrol operations in the affected axis in a bid to prevent further attacks and restore public confidence in the area.
