The Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Borno State Chapter, has appointed the Shehu of Borno, His Eminence Alhaji (Dr.) Abubakar Umar Garbai El-Kanemi, CFR, as its Grand Patron, in recognition of his leadership, commitment to peace, and support for professional excellence.
The appointment was formally announced during a courtesy visit by a high-powered delegation of the institute, led by the Chairman of the Borno State Chapter, Alhaji Umar Mohammed Tijjani, to the Shehu’s palace in Maiduguri.
At the event, the NIPR delegation presented the official letter of appointment, a commemorative plaque, and a roll-up banner to the revered monarch, describing him as a symbol of unity and stability in Borno State.
Speaking during the presentation, Tijjani said the appointment reflected the decision of the NIPR National President and members of the institute to honour the Shehu for his enduring contributions to peacebuilding and societal development.
He noted that the Borno chapter, which had remained inactive for more than three decades, was successfully revived in 2023 through concerted efforts by its leadership.
According to him, the chapter has since become vibrant and fully operational, with more than 40 registered members actively promoting professional public relations practice across the state.
“On behalf of the National President and the entire membership of NIPR Borno State Chapter, I am honoured to present this appointment to Your Eminence as our Grand Patron,” Tijjani stated.
In his response, the Shehu of Borno expressed gratitude to the institute for the honour and formally accepted the appointment.
He commended the leadership of the chapter for revitalising the institute and strengthening the public relations profession in Borno State.
The royal father also urged practitioners to continue fostering peace, unity, mutual understanding, and responsible communication, stressing the vital role of public relations in nation-building.
“I sincerely thank you for this honour. I accept the appointment as Grand Patron of the NIPR Borno State Chapter and look forward to working with the institute in advancing its noble objectives,” the monarch said.
The visit ended with prayers for sustained peace, progress, and development in Borno State and Nigeria. :::
