Katsina state government

The Katsina State Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs reports that on April 20, 2025, at approximately 3:20 PM, security operatives conducted a successful operation against armed bandits on the outskirts of Karda village in Yantumaki B Ward.

Acting on intelligence provided by our security formation regarding bandit activities near Karda village—the maternal home of notorious bandit kingpin Umar Manore—service assets led by Commander Auwal Yusuf of the Yantumaki hunters’ camp engaged a large gathering of armed criminals who were strategizing on their nefarious activities under a tree at the village outskirts.

The ensuing gun battle, which lasted approximately fourty minutes, resulted in multiple casualties among the bandits due to the superior firepower of our operatives. Several bandits were neutralized while others escaped with bullet wounds. Security forces recovered two AK-47 rifles and four operational motorcycles used by the criminals.

Regrettably, during the crossfire, two civilians—Abdullahi Usman (30) and Hayatu Usman (35)—were hit by stray bullets. Sadly, Hayatu Usman was later confirmed dead at Yantumaki Comprehensive Health Center, while Abdullahi Usman has been rushed to Dutsinma General Hospital for medical attention.

All recovered items are being transferred to State headquarters as investigations are in top gear.

The Ministry, on behalf of Governor Dikko Umaru Radda expressed deepest condolences to the family of the late Hayatu Usman.

The Governor is deeply saddened by this unfortunate loss and has directed that the family receive all necessary support during this difficult time. We also pray for the quick recovery of Abdullahi Usman who is currently receiving treatment.

Security agencies in the state remain vigilant against possible reprisal attacks, and additional measures have been put in place to safeguard the affected communities.

The Katsina State Government reiterates its commitment to ridding our communities of banditry and all forms of criminality. We also urge citizens to continue supporting security operatives by providing timely and actionable intelligence.
