The Katsina State Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (RUWASSA) has reaffirmed its resolve to intensify collaboration with development partners, humanitarian organisations and government institutions in a renewed push to strengthen climate resilience, improve disaster preparedness and guarantee sustainable access to safe water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) services across vulnerable communities in the state.
The agency said its commitment goes beyond responding to emergencies, stressing that it is adopting a proactive approach aimed at reducing the devastating impact of climate change, seasonal flooding and other environmental threats on rural communities.
RUWASSA noted that with the increasing frequency of climate-related disasters, building resilient communities has become a top priority. The agency pledged to continue implementing programmes that equip communities with the knowledge, skills and infrastructure needed to withstand emergencies while ensuring uninterrupted access to clean water and safe sanitation services.
It further emphasized that strong partnerships with the Katsina State Government, UNICEF, the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), local government councils, traditional institutions, civil society organisations and community volunteers remain central to achieving lasting environmental sustainability and effective disaster risk reduction.
According to the agency, future interventions will focus on expanding community-based preparedness programmes, strengthening early warning systems, promoting climate-smart WASH initiatives and enhancing emergency response mechanisms to minimise the loss of lives, protect livelihoods and preserve critical public infrastructure during disasters.
RUWASSA also called on residents to actively support government efforts by embracing environmental protection measures, safeguarding public water facilities and participating in community-led initiatives aimed at promoting hygiene, sanitation and climate adaptation.
The agency expressed confidence that sustained collaboration with its partners would not only improve emergency response capacity but also contribute significantly to better public health outcomes, environmental conservation and socio-economic development across Katsina State.
Reaffirming its long-term vision, RUWASSA pledged to remain at the forefront of efforts to build safer, healthier and more resilient communities, ensuring that even the most vulnerable populations have reliable access to safe water, sanitation and hygiene services despite the growing challenges posed by climate change.
