President Bola Tinubu has called for enhanced synergy and coordinated efforts to tackle economic challenges in Africa.
This appeal was made at the State House on Friday during the presentation of Letters of Credence by newly-appointed ambassadors to Nigeria.
Strengthening Bonds with Global PartnersAmbassadors presenting their credentials included Ambassador Edouard Nduwimana of Burundi, Ambassador Mersole Mellejor of the Philippines, and High Commissioner Isaac Parashina of Kenya.
President Tinubu highlighted Nigeria’s commitment to fostering democratic values and economic opportunities in meetings with each envoy.
Expanding Gas Production with the Philippines In his discussion with Ambassador Mellejor, President Tinubu announced Nigeria’s ambitious plans to expand natural gas production.
He invited the Philippines to invest in this sector, emphasizing the importance of implementing previously signed economic cooperation agreements.
“Our cordial relations with the Philippines have great potential for economic growth,” President Tinubu said.
Ambassador Mellejor praised Nigeria’s leadership and noted that over 3,000 Filipinos are employed in Nigeria’s oil industry, appreciating the warm hospitality they receive.
Tackling Environmental Challenges with Burundi During his meeting with Ambassador Nduwimana, President Tinubu addressed the recent floods in East Africa, calling for a united approach to environmental challenges.
He extended condolences to the affected countries and pledged to pursue further cooperation in the oil and gas sector with Burundi.
“We must work together to confront environmental issues and support our people,” President Tinubu stated.
Ambassador Nduwimana highlighted the impact of rising water levels in Lake Tanganyika and sought Nigerian investment in Burundi’s solid minerals sector.
