Vice-President Kashim Shettima delivered a poignant reflection on power, loyalty and friendship on Monday as dignitaries gathered in Abuja to commemorate the first anniversary of the passing of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
Speaking at the memorial event, Shettima remarked: “When you are in power, your friends know you; when you are out of power, you know your friends.”
The Vice-President used the statement to underscore the changing nature of relationships in public office, suggesting that true loyalty is often revealed only after power and influence are gone.
The event brought together political leaders, family members, associates and admirers who paid tribute to Buhari’s life, leadership and legacy one year after his death.
Shettima’s remarks quickly drew attention for their broader message on friendship, political loyalty and the realities of life after public office.
