The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has called on residents who may have fallen victim to alleged machete attacks and robbery around Osongama and Four Lanes in Uyo to come forward and make formal reports.

The appeal followed reports circulating on social media alleging that a man armed with a machete has been attacking and robbing residents in the areas.

In a statement issued on Thursday, October 8, 2026, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, said the Command was aware of the circulating reports but stressed the need for victims to provide firsthand information to enable investigators establish the facts.

The Police urged anyone who may have been attacked or robbed in connection with the allegation to report to the nearest police station.

Victims were advised to provide useful details such as the date and time of the incident, exact location, description of the suspect, items allegedly stolen and any other available evidence that could assist the investigation.

According to the Command, such information would help investigators determine what actually happened, identify the suspect and trace the individual if the allegations are established.

The Police also appealed to residents with credible information about the alleged attacks to contact law enforcement authorities and assist with the investigation.

While urging residents to remain calm, the Command cautioned members of the public against confronting anyone suspected of carrying a weapon.

It advised residents to immediately report suspicious movements or activities to the Police rather than taking the law into their own hands.

The Command further warned against spreading unverified information, noting that unchecked reports on social media could create unnecessary fear and panic among residents.

The Police assured the public that credible reports would be treated seriously and investigated appropriately.

The statement was signed by DSP Timfon John, LLB, ANIPR, Police Public Relations Officer, for the Commissioner of Police, Akwa Ibom State Command.
