The Nigeria Police Force has successfully rescued a woman and her 12-year-old twin sons who were abducted in Ibadan, Oyo State, following a coordinated intelligence-led operation that left two suspected kidnappers dead.
The victims, Mrs. Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul and her sons, Peter and Paul, were freed unharmed on Saturday evening after operatives of the Force Intelligence Department–Intelligence Response Team (FID-IRT) tracked and confronted their captors.
The family was abducted on June 3, 2026, while Mrs. Adegoke was driving her children to school in Ibadan. Their disappearance triggered an intensive manhunt by security operatives, who deployed intelligence gathering, surveillance, and tactical operations to locate the kidnappers.
Police said the breakthrough came at about 7:30 p.m. on June 6 when FID-IRT operatives closed in on the gang’s hideout, leading to a gun battle with the suspects.
During the operation, two suspected kidnappers were fatally wounded, while two rifles were recovered from the scene. The rescued victims were immediately taken into protective custody and are receiving medical attention and support.
Inspector-General of Police commended the bravery, professionalism, and dedication of the FID-IRT personnel and other officers involved in the operation, describing the rescue as a testament to the Force’s commitment to protecting lives and combating violent crime.
Meanwhile, security operatives have intensified efforts to apprehend other members of the kidnapping syndicate who escaped during the confrontation. Preliminary intelligence suggests that some of the fleeing suspects sustained gunshot wounds.
Police authorities assured the public that ongoing operations are aimed at tracking down and bringing all those connected to the abduction to justice.
The Force also expressed appreciation to members of the public for their cooperation and patience throughout the rescue mission, reaffirming its resolve to ensure the safety of citizens and tackle criminal activities across the country.
