BIRNIN KEBBI — The Kebbi State Police Command has dealt a major blow to suspected electricity infrastructure vandals following the recovery of a large consignment of stolen service cables in Bunza Local Government Area of the state.
The operation, carried out on August 25, 2026, in the Kara area of Bunza town, also led to the arrest of a suspected cable thief identified as Mustapha Abubakar, who has since been taken to court.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman, disclosed the development in a statement issued to journalists in Birnin Kebbi, the state capital.
According to him, police operatives moved into the area following growing concerns over the persistent theft and destruction of electricity infrastructure, which has contributed to prolonged power outages affecting residents and communities.
During the operation, officers recovered 10 bundles and seven sacks of electricity service cables, believed to have been removed from public electricity installations.
The police said the development represents a significant step in the ongoing campaign against the theft, vandalism and illegal removal of critical infrastructure across the state.
The Command warned that criminal activities targeting electricity facilities not only cause financial losses but also disrupt essential services, leaving communities without reliable power supply.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Umar Hadejia, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to protecting critical national assets and bringing those involved in infrastructure vandalism to justice.
He urged residents to remain alert and promptly provide security agencies with useful information about suspicious movements or activities within their communities.
The police also assured members of the public that operations against criminals targeting public infrastructure would be sustained across Kebbi State.
