A routine police patrol in Minna took a tragic turn on February 21, 2025, when an officer’s attempt to disperse an attacking mob accidentally struck a female immigration officer, Assistant Superintendent of Immigration (ASI) Christian Oladimeji.
The incident unfolded around 12:30 p.m. near the Obasanjo Complex when a Surveillance Patrol Team from the ‘A’ Division Police Command, led by ASP Ibrahim Audu Paiko, spotted suspected stolen iron rods in the possession of a group of road construction workers. Upon sighting the officers, the workers abandoned the materials and fled.
As the police attempted to recover the abandoned items, they were ambushed by another group of construction workers and hoodlums who pelted them with stones, damaging their patrol vehicle. In the ensuing chaos, ASP Ibrahim Audu fired a warning shot to deter the mob. Tragically, the bullet struck ASI Christian Oladimeji, who was passing by on a motorcycle.
The impact caused her to fall, sustaining additional injuries. She was immediately rushed to IBB Specialist Hospital, where medical personnel confirmed she suffered a fractured waist, though no bullet fragments remained in her body.
Authorities have detained several suspects for questioning and initiated disciplinary measures against the officers involved. Residents have been urged to remain calm as security forces work to restore order in the state.
