The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested two suspects and recovered a stolen mini truck in a major breakthrough against vehicle theft, following a swift intelligence-led operation.
Police said the operation led to the arrest of Isaac Akpan, 27, from Akwebom Village in Obot Akara Local Government Area, who allegedly confessed to stealing a white Daihatsu Hijet mini truck loaded with bags of sachet water from the factory where he worked in Agbor South, Delta State.
According to the Command, the suspect admitted that after disposing of the entire consignment of sachet water, he used the proceeds to buy fuel and drove the stolen vehicle to Akwa Ibom, where he allegedly sold it.
Further investigations led detectives to Aloysius Aniekan, 45, of Agric Road, Ikot Ekpene, who was found in possession of the vehicle. Police alleged that the suspect had re-registered the mini truck with a different registration number in an attempt to conceal its identity.
The stolen white Daihatsu Hijet mini truck has since been recovered and taken into police custody as an exhibit, while both suspects remain in custody as investigations continue.
Commending the operatives for the successful operation, the Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, praised their professionalism and commitment to intelligence-driven policing. He reaffirmed the Command’s resolve to protect lives and property and ensure that all those connected to the crime are brought to justice.
The police also appealed to residents to remain vigilant and continue providing timely and credible information, stressing that community collaboration remains essential in the fight against crime and the promotion of public safety across Akwa Ibom State.
