The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested two suspects allegedly involved in vandalizing and stealing items from an accidented truck along the Calabar–Itu Highway.
The arrests followed a late-night intelligence-led operation carried out by operatives of the command on May 10, 2026, at about 10:00 p.m.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, officers acted swiftly after receiving credible information from a tricycle operator about criminal elements looting a truck that had plunged into a valley at Afaha along the busy highway.
Police operatives immediately stormed the scene and arrested one Adamu Hamza, 19, a native of Maiduguri, allegedly found in possession of four suspected stolen truck tyres.
Investigators later arrested the tricycle operator, identified as Anthony James, who was reportedly used to transport the stolen items away from the accident scene.
The police said both suspects are currently in custody, while efforts are ongoing to track down and arrest other accomplices who fled during the operation.
Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police in Akwa Ibom State, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, warned residents against taking advantage of accident scenes to engage in looting, vandalism, or theft.
He reiterated the command’s commitment to intelligence-driven policing and vowed that security operatives would continue to intensify surveillance across the state to protect lives and property.
The command also commended members of the public for providing timely and credible information that aided the arrests, urging residents to remain vigilant and law-abiding.
