The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has recorded a chilling breakthrough in its war against violent crime, arresting a notorious kidnapper and cultist linked to multiple abductions in the state.
The suspect, identified as Ubong Michael, popularly known as “Ubong Boy,” was apprehended on April 22 at Ikot Aka Village in Mkpat Enin Local Government Area following intelligence that he had secretly returned from hiding in Port Harcourt.
Police sources disclosed that the 30-year-old suspect, long on the Command’s wanted list, was tracked and arrested in a swift, intelligence-led operation.
Shockingly, a search conducted during his arrest led to the recovery of disturbing items, including a human skull and bone believed to be linked to past victims, alongside two live cartridges and a dagger.
Preliminary investigations tie the suspect to high-profile kidnapping cases, including the abduction of victims identified as Gabriel in 2023 and John in 2025.
During interrogation, Ubong reportedly confessed to his role in the crimes and is now assisting investigators with crucial information to track down fleeing members of his syndicate and recover more weapons.
Commending the operatives, the Commissioner of Police, Baba Mohammed Azare, praised the swift response and reaffirmed the Command’s resolve to stamp out violent crime across the state.
The Police warned criminal elements to steer clear of Akwa Ibom, declaring the state increasingly hostile to unlawful activities, while urging residents to remain vigilant and support security agencies with timely information.
