Pof. Sandabe shaves BOSU as outgoing Pioneer Successful VC of Borno State University

Professor Sandabe has made quite an impact as the outgoing Pioneer VC of Borno State University within the five years of his stewardship.

The Borno State University (BOSU), has secured full accreditation of 28 out of 30 academic programmes being offered by the institution.

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Umar Kyari Sandabe stated this at a press briefing to mark end of his tenure.

Professor Sandabe explained that the accreditation exercise for the 30 programmes in the university were conducted in November/December 2022 and the results were released in February 2023.

The Vice Chancellor, spoke on the fast rate of development that took place within the first five years looking back to the commencement of academic activities during the 2019/2020 session with only 647 students in four faculties.

Today he said the university has students population of over Six Thousand.

He disclosed that, the university applied to the National Universities Commission (NUC) and has since commenced courses in Bachelor of Medicine, and Bachelor Surgery (MBBS), Doctor of Physiotherapy, Bachelor of Nursing, Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science (BMLS), Bachelor of Radiography, Bachelor of Health Information Management System (HIMS), and Bachelor of Science Biochemistry.

The Vice Chancellor explained that BOSU had also applied to National Universities Commission (NUC) for approval to commence engineering and law programmes.

He said the existing faculties have successfully graduated its first set of students, while faculty of agriculture which is a 5-year programme is expected to graduate its students in this academic session.

He commended the Federal Government for its tremendous supports as well as agencies such as NITDA, NNPC, TETFUND among others. For their support in area of executing landmark projects in the young university.

Professor Sandabe who lauded the management team of the university for the support accorded him as the pioneer vice-chancellor, urge his successor to always consult widely and ensure frugal management of resources.

He thanked the Vice President Senator Kashim Shettima GCON for appointing him as pioneer Vice-Chancellor of the university when he was Governor, and Borno State Governor Professor Babagana Umara Zulum for his support in the development of the university.

Professor Sandabe also thanked successive Commissioners of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation for their support to the university.

  1. Ma sha Allah Prof. You have done your best. May Allah reward you abundantly. However, there should be a Master Plan for BOSU for a long term success projection. Also, professional courses such as the Food Science and Technology and Human Nutrition and Dietetics should be pursued by the Management of BOSU.
