The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Katsina State Command, has reaffirmed its commitment to protecting critical national assets and infrastructure as part of intensified efforts to curb vandalism and destruction of public facilities across the state.
The State Commandant, Commandant of Corps AD Moriki, made the pledge during a courtesy visit to the Katsina State Commissioner for Works, Housing and Transport, Engr. Sani Magaji Ingawa, at the Ja Abdulkadir Secretariat Complex in Katsina on Tuesday.
Speaking during the visit, Commandant Moriki said the meeting was aimed at strengthening existing synergy and collaboration between the NSCDC and the Ministry in tackling threats to critical infrastructure.
He expressed appreciation for the warm reception accorded to him and his delegation, stressing that the Corps under the leadership of Commandant General Professor Ahmed Abubakar Audi remains fully committed to safeguarding national assets, including public utilities and infrastructure.
Moriki particularly raised concerns over the recurring destruction of fibre optic cables and vandalism of government facilities, noting that closer collaboration among the Ministry, contractors, NSCDC, and other stakeholders had become necessary to address the menace.
According to him, protecting critical infrastructure is central to national development and public safety, warning that acts of vandalism continue to undermine government investments and disrupt essential services.
Responding on behalf of the Commissioner, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, QS Samaila Umar Rugoji, welcomed the NSCDC Commandant and commended the Corps for its role in maintaining security and combating vandalism in the state.
He assured the NSCDC of the Ministry’s continued cooperation, emphasizing that stronger collaboration with contractors and relevant stakeholders would help reduce the wanton destruction of fibre optic cables and other public assets during construction activities.
The meeting also highlighted the growing need for coordinated security measures to protect infrastructure projects and ensure uninterrupted public services across Katsina State.
The visit forms part of ongoing engagements by the NSCDC to deepen inter-agency cooperation and strengthen the protection of critical national assets nationwide.
