NSCDC Assures Full Support to Taskforce on Food Price Monitoring

In a significant move towards ensuring food security and fair pricing, the State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Katsina, Commandant Jamilu A. Indabawa, welcomed the Chairman of the Taskforce on Monitoring of Prices and Movement of Grains, Hon. Jabiru Salisu Abdullahi Tsauri, and his team during a courtesy visit at the Command Headquarters on Monday, February 26, 2024.

The State Government of Katsina, on February 21, 2024, inaugurated a 27-member Joint Taskforce committee to monitor the prices and movement of grains. This committee, chaired by Mallam Dikko Umar Radda, Chief of Staff to the Governor, includes representatives from various security agencies, government bodies, civil society organizations, and stakeholders.

The Chairman, Hon. Jabiru Salisu Abdullahi Tsauri, emphasized the Taskforce’s role in monitoring foodstuff prices, curbing hoarding, and regulating the movement of food commodities to prevent unjustified price hikes. He warned of strict legal consequences for those engaged in illegal dealings with food commodities.

Commandant Jamilu A. Indabawa commended the state government for its proactive measures in establishing the task force. He assured the Chairman and his team of the NSCDC’s full support, cooperation, and collaboration in executing this crucial assignment.

The State Commandant disclosed that special teams have been deployed to gather credible intelligence on the movement and hoarding of food commodities. He emphasized the NSCDC’s commitment to providing necessary support, cooperation, and timely intelligence to uncover illegal activities related to food commodities.
