The Northern Elders Progressive Movement (NEPM) has applauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration for what it described as remarkable strides in tackling insecurity and expanding infrastructure across the country, while calling on Nigerians to unite in support of efforts aimed at building a peaceful and prosperous nation.
In a statement signed by its Secretary-General, Mallam Yusuf Abubakar, the group said the Federal Government has demonstrated strong leadership by pursuing policies designed to strengthen national unity, deepen democracy and drive sustainable development despite prevailing economic and security challenges.
The movement noted that ongoing military operations, particularly across Nigeria’s North-West, have significantly weakened the activities of armed bandits and restored confidence in several communities previously ravaged by violence.
According to the group, security forces have intensified offensives against criminal hideouts, destroying camps and disrupting the operations of notorious bandit leaders in states including Katsina, Zamfara, Sokoto, Kebbi, Niger and Kwara.
NEPM singled out Operation Fansan Yamma for praise, describing it as one of the most successful counter-banditry campaigns in recent years. It urged the Armed Forces to sustain the momentum until lasting peace is achieved throughout the region.
The group also commended the Minister of State for Defence, Mohammed Bello Matawalle, for providing strategic leadership and support that, it said, has strengthened ongoing military operations and enhanced the effectiveness of security interventions in the North-West.
While acknowledging that isolated attacks still occur, the elders maintained that the military’s sustained offensives have dealt major setbacks to criminal networks operating in forest enclaves.
They stressed that the sacrifices of security personnel should not go unnoticed, urging Nigerians to stand firmly behind members of the Armed Forces and other security agencies who continue to risk their lives in defence of the country.
The movement further appealed to citizens across political, ethnic and religious divides to embrace tolerance, mutual respect and peaceful coexistence, insisting that national progress can only flourish in an atmosphere of unity and stability.
“It is the responsibility of every Nigerian to contribute to the preservation of our unity and democratic values. National development requires collective sacrifice, patriotism and unwavering commitment to peace,” the statement said.
Reaffirming its support for initiatives that promote security, national cohesion and inclusive development, the Northern Elders Progressive Movement expressed optimism that Nigeria would overcome its present challenges through responsible leadership, sustained military efforts and the cooperation of all citizens.
