North-East Governors’ Forum Postpones Maiduguri Meeting Over Unforeseen Circumstances

The 13th regular meeting of the North-East Governors’ Forum (NEGF), earlier scheduled to hold in Maiduguri this weekend, has been postponed.

The meeting was billed for Friday, September 11, and Saturday, September 12, 2026, at the Multipurpose Hall of the Borno State Government House.

However, organisers announced on Friday that the meeting had been rescheduled due to unforeseen circumstances.

The announcement was contained in a statement issued by the Secretary to the Borno State Government and Chairman of the meeting’s Organising Committee, Bukar Tijani.

According to Tijani, the decision was taken on behalf of Borno State Governor and Chairman of the North-East Governors’ Forum, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum.

“On behalf of His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Borno State and Chairman of the North East Governors’ Forum, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, I wish to announce the rescheduling of the 13th NEGF meeting due to unforeseen circumstances,” the statement said.

The organising committee said a fresh date for the meeting would be communicated in due course.

The postponement is expected to affect the planned gathering of governors from the six North-East states, who use the forum to deliberate on issues affecting the region, including security, economic development, infrastructure, education and other matters of common interest.

Tijani expressed regret over any inconvenience the change in schedule might have caused participants, stakeholders and other invited guests.

He assured that further information regarding the new date would be made available once arrangements were finalised.

The North-East Governors’ Forum remains a key platform for regional cooperation, particularly on challenges that require collective action among the states.
