The newly appointed Governing Council of the Federal University Dutsin-Ma FUDMA has launched its tenure with a transformative retreat held in Dutse, Jigawa State.
The retreat, which ran from December 2, was aimed at equipping council members with the knowledge and strategies needed to enhance the university’s administration.
Led by Pro-Chancellor and Chairman, Col. Abdulmumini Aminu (Rtd.), the council includes prominent members such as Prof. Abba Tijani Isa, Hon. Ibrahim Baba Chai-Chai, Barr. Osijo Olaide, and Engr. Dele Olanubi, alongside Mrs. Prescilla Ijeoma Duru, representing the Federal Ministry of Education.
In his opening remarks, Col. Aminu emphasized the retreat’s importance as a platform for aligning visions and fostering collaboration. He called on participants to engage in open dialogue, focus on strategic planning, and prioritize teamwork to advance the university’s mission.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Armaya’u Hamisu Bichi, whose tenure is nearing its end, reiterated his commitment to good leadership and urged stakeholders to maintain the institution’s upward trajectory.
He highlighted his administration’s achievements and called for continued dedication to overcome future challenges.
Guest speaker Prof. Abubakar Adamu Rasheed, former Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Universities Commission (NUC), delivered a thought-provoking paper on the critical role of governing councils in shaping the future of federal universities.
He stressed the need for visionary leadership, efficient resource management, and collaboration with educational agencies like NUC and JAMB.
Other speakers, including leadership experts Mr. Immanuelson Sam and Prof. Nasir Tukur Dabo, underscored the importance of fostering a culture of excellence, innovation, and inclusivity within the university system.
They advocated for impactful leadership as a driver of positive institutional change.
The retreat concluded with calls for adherence to university laws, regular policy reviews, and a commitment to transparency and accountability in governance.
As the FUDMA Governing Council embarks on its journey, this retreat sets the stage for a future of progress and academic excellence.
