The National Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) has constituted a nine-member Credentials Committee to oversee preparations for its 2026 Triennial National Delegates Conference scheduled to hold in November.
The committee was inaugurated by the National Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Comrade Alhassan Yahya Abdullahi, in Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State, during the association’s National Executive Council (NEC) meeting.
The development marks a major step towards the conduct of the association’s next triennial conference, with the committee expected to coordinate the necessary processes leading to the election and emergence of new national leadership.
Speaking during the inauguration, NAWOJ National Chairperson, Aishatu Ibrahim, charged members of the committee to approach the assignment with fairness, impartiality and professionalism.
She urged them to strictly adhere to the Constitution of the NUJ and other regulations governing the association, stressing that respect for due process remained critical to protecting the credibility and unity of NAWOJ.
According to her, the committee has a responsibility to ensure that every stage of the process is handled transparently and in accordance with established rules.
Ibrahim further called on stakeholders to support the committee and allow it to discharge its mandate without interference, noting that a credible process would strengthen confidence in the outcome of the conference.
Also speaking, NUJ National Chairman, Alhassan Yahya Abdullahi, urged members of the committee to uphold the highest standards of integrity, patriotism and professionalism throughout their assignment.
Abdullahi tasked the committee with ensuring that the electoral process is free, fair, credible and transparent, with the outcome reflecting the wishes of eligible stakeholders.
He commended NAWOJ for its continued commitment to democratic principles and urged the committee to remain guided by the provisions of the NUJ Constitution while carrying out its responsibilities.
The nine-member Credentials Committee is chaired by Comrade Rajab Mohammed, alongside eight other members who will work collectively to coordinate the processes required for the successful organisation of the 2026 NAWOJ Triennial National Delegates Conference.
The committee is expected to handle key preparatory responsibilities, including the coordination of credentials and other processes necessary for the conference.
The NAWOJ National Secretariat subsequently appealed to members and stakeholders across the country to cooperate with the committee and provide the support required for it to successfully execute its mandate.
The November conference is expected to bring together delegates from across the country as the association prepares for another phase of its national leadership and organisational development.
