GUSAU – The Nigerian Army has reaffirmed its determination to intensify the fight against terrorism, insurgency, banditry and kidnapping across the country as it marked the 2026 Nigerian Army Day Celebration (NADCEL) with special Jumma’at prayers and interdenominational church services in Gusau, Zamfara State.
The resolve was echoed in messages delivered on behalf of the Chief of Army Staff during the religious activities organised by the Headquarters Theatre Command, Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, to commemorate the Army’s 163rd anniversary.
Addressing officers, soldiers, veterans and guests during the Jumma’at prayer, the Theatre Commander, Major General WB Idris, conveyed the Chief of Army Staff’s message, describing the anniversary as a moment to reflect on the Nigerian Army’s long-standing service, honour fallen heroes and strengthen its commitment to defending the nation’s sovereignty.
He stressed that despite prevailing security challenges, troops remain resolute in protecting Nigerians and restoring peace across troubled regions.
Speaking on the NADCEL 2026 theme, “Protecting the Nation and Serving the People: A Way Forward for the Nigerian Army,” the Chief of Army Staff called on personnel to uphold the Army’s core values of loyalty, discipline, integrity, selfless service and professionalism while sustaining the momentum against criminal elements threatening national security.
He also acknowledged the Federal Government’s continued support in enhancing the Army’s operational capacity and improving the welfare of personnel.
At the interdenominational church service, the Theatre Commander, represented by the Chief of Staff, Brigadier General OA Obochi, reaffirmed the Army’s commitment to the “Soldier First” initiative, aimed at improving accommodation, healthcare, training, education and family welfare for serving personnel.
The Chief of Army Staff also paid tribute to fallen heroes, wounded soldiers, veterans and the families of military personnel, describing their sacrifices as the foundation of the nation’s security and stability.
The Headquarters Theatre Command, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, said the NADCEL 2026 activities underscore the Nigerian Army’s unwavering commitment to national unity, operational excellence and stronger partnerships with communities in the North-West and across the country.
