The Minister of Power, Mr. Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe, and Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, today commissioned the newly completed 120MVA, 132/33kV Transmission Substation in Kankia Local Government Area.
In his address, the Minister said the project is part of the Federal Government’s strategic intervention to strengthen the national grid and improve electricity transmission capacity across the country.
He reaffirmed the commitment of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration to delivering critical power infrastructure that ensures available electricity reaches consumers efficiently.
In his address, Governor Radda described the completion of the substation as a landmark investment in Katsina’s power infrastructure. The facility comprises two 60MVA transformers with a combined capacity of 120MVA, which will reinforce the state’s transmission network and enable greater volumes of electricity to reach homes, businesses and industries.
The Governor said reliable electricity is critical to economic growth, industrial development and improved public services. He noted that the facility will complement the state’s expanding renewable energy programme and support productive sectors including agriculture, agro-processing, commerce, education and healthcare.
He thanked President Tinubu for approving the project and commended the Minister and the Transmission Company of Nigeria for their commitment to its delivery. He urged host communities to protect the facility against vandalism, describing it as a public asset for generations.
The commissioning was attended by top members of the State Executive Council, officials of the Federal Ministry of Power, Transmission Company of Nigeria, and Kano Electricity Distribution Company.
