The Kebbi State Police Command has arrested seven suspects in separate criminal investigations involving attempted murder, robbery, cable vandalism and the theft of generators from an INEC office.
The command said the arrests followed sustained investigative efforts by its operatives across the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman, disclosed this in a statement issued to journalists in Birnin Kebbi on Tuesday, September 1, 2026.
One of the major breakthroughs involved the arrest of Bello Abubakar, a resident of Ganwo Village in Yauri Local Government Area, over an alleged attempt to kill a commercial motorcyclist and steal his motorcycle.
According to the police, the victim, Bello Umar, a commercial motorcycle operator from Wasagu Village in Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area, was discovered with a severe head injury at Tungar Dariya Bush, near Makera Village in Shanga LGA.
He was subsequently rushed to Koko General Hospital, where he received medical attention and was later discharged.
Preliminary investigation, the police said, revealed that Abubakar allegedly hired Umar’s motorcycle from Koko Town to Tungar Dariya Bush.
On reaching the isolated location, the suspect allegedly attacked the rider with a hoe, leaving him unconscious.
Believing the victim was dead, the suspect reportedly covered his body with leaves before fleeing with the motorcycle towards Yauri Town.
However, the alleged getaway did not go as planned.
Police investigators traced the stolen motorcycle and recovered it, a development which eventually led to Abubakar’s arrest.
The command said the suspect was assisting investigators, while the case had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and prosecution.
Six Arrested Over Cable Theft, INEC Generator Robbery
In another operation, the police arrested six suspects over alleged cable vandalism and a separate break-in at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) office in Jega.
The suspects are accused of stealing electrical cables and breaking into the INEC premises, where six generators were reportedly carted away.
Police said all six stolen generators had been recovered.
One of the generators, however, had already been dismantled into scrap parts, allegedly in preparation for sale.
The investigation into the INEC office burglary reportedly began immediately after the police received the report, leading detectives to deploy operatives to track down those allegedly responsible.
The operation resulted in the arrest of four suspects and the recovery of the stolen generators.
In a related cable-vandalism investigation, police arrested Aliyu Muhammed of Dudduke Village, Jega LGA, allegedly while he was carrying bundles of aluminium cable wires concealed inside a sack.
During interrogation, police said Muhammed confessed to conspiring with one Yusuf Dudduke to vandalise and steal cables from an electricity pole in Dudduke Village.
The command said all the suspects remain in custody and will be charged before a court after the completion of investigations.
SP Bashir Usman reaffirmed the command’s commitment to intensifying operations against criminals and protecting lives and property across Kebbi State.
