Governor Nasir Idris has suspended the state’s ₦150 million monthly support to Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO), citing worsening electricity supply and mounting public complaints.
The decision was announced at a high-level town hall in Birnin Kebbi, where the governor also ordered the immediate constitution of a multi-stakeholder committee to tackle the lingering power crisis.
Idris described the persistent outages as unacceptable, warning that the government would no longer tolerate poor service delivery that hampers economic growth and daily life.
The committee, drawn from government, civil society, labour unions, traditional institutions, and KEDCO officials, is tasked with reviewing the challenges and proposing lasting solutions to improve electricity supply across the state.
The governor stressed that the move signals a decisive shift, insisting that public funds must translate into visible results for the people.
