Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, has commended the World Assembly of Muslim Youths (WAMY) for bringing free specialist medical services to the state, describing the initiative as a major humanitarian intervention capable of transforming the lives of hundreds of residents.
The governor gave the commendation on Sunday when he received a delegation of more than 30 medical experts from different parts of the world who are in Kebbi to conduct a week-long free medical and surgical outreach.
Receiving the team at the Government House in Birnin Kebbi, Governor Idris expressed appreciation to WAMY and the Nasara Foundation for selecting Kebbi as a beneficiary of the medical intervention.
He said the outreach would provide critical relief to residents who might otherwise struggle to afford specialised medical treatment and surgical procedures.
According to him, initiatives of such magnitude complement government’s efforts in strengthening access to quality healthcare, particularly for vulnerable members of society.
Governor Idris assured WAMY and other humanitarian organisations of the state government’s continued support, saying his administration would maintain an enabling environment for credible organisations willing to contribute to the wellbeing of the people.
He also stressed the importance of sustained collaboration between the government, development partners and humanitarian organisations in addressing healthcare needs across the state.
Earlier, WAMY Executive Director, Hisham Muhammad, said the organisation had mobilised a team of medical specialists to Kebbi for the week-long intervention, which commenced on Saturday.
Muhammad disclosed that the team is led by renowned general surgeon, Dr Abdul Latif Barnawi, and comprises specialists with expertise in different areas of medicine.
He explained that the exercise would place particular emphasis on general surgery, gynaecology and obstetrics, as well as paediatric surgery.
The WAMY executive director said about 1,500 patients are expected to benefit from free surgical operations and other medical services during the outreach.
He added that the medical team would attend to a wide range of health conditions, particularly those affecting women and children, while also providing necessary medications and post-operative care to patients who undergo surgery.
The intervention is expected to offer much-needed medical support to residents requiring specialised attention, while reducing the financial burden associated with surgical treatment.
The WAMY outreach further underscores the growing role of humanitarian partnerships in expanding access to healthcare services, especially for communities where the cost of specialised treatment remains a major challenge.
The Kebbi State Government’s reception of the medical team signals its willingness to deepen cooperation with organisations supporting healthcare delivery and other humanitarian causes across the state.
