The Katsina State Police Command has recorded a major breakthrough in its fight against crime, arresting a suspected notorious drug peddler and dismantling a four-man armed robbery syndicate terrorising Funtua Local Government Area and surrounding communities.
The operations, carried out at different times in May 2026, led to the recovery of illicit drugs, dangerous weapons, stolen property, GSM handsets, and cash suspected to be proceeds of crime.
According to a statement from the Command, under the leadership of Commissioner of Police, CP Ali Umar Fage, operatives acted on credible intelligence to track down suspects linked to drug trafficking and violent robberies in the area.
On May 28, 2026, at about 6:00 p.m., police operatives attached to the Central Police Station, Funtua, arrested a 22-year-old suspect, Aliyu Umar, popularly known as “Makami,” in the Jabiri area.
The suspect, believed to be a key member of a drug distribution network, was found in possession of 38 Exol tablets, 28 wraps of suspected cannabis, and a sharp knife.
In a separate operation on May 21, 2026, operatives of the Makera Division, Funtua, arrested three suspected members of a violent robbery gang following intelligence reports of their activities around the Makera area.
The suspects include Salim Umar (24), Yusuf Mustapha (23), and Gaddafi Idris (27), all allegedly involved in phone snatching, motorcycle theft, shop breaking, and armed robbery.
A search of the suspects led to the recovery of two long knives, three machetes, scissors, an iron bar, torchlights, multiple GSM handsets, a power bank, ATM cards, SIM cards, criminal charms, and cash amounting to ₦36,870.
Further investigation linked the suspects to a shop burglary along Bishir Idris Road, Funtua, as well as the robbery of a boxer motorcycle valued at ₦1.1 million belonging to one Salisu Ibrahim.
The police said all suspects are currently under investigation and will be charged to court upon completion of inquiries.
Commissioner of Police, CP Ali Umar Fage, commended the operatives for their swift response and professionalism, reaffirming the Command’s commitment to ridding the state of criminal elements.
He also urged residents to continue providing timely and useful information to security agencies to support ongoing efforts to maintain peace and security across Katsina State.
