The Kano State History and Culture Bureau has once again brought honor to the region by clinching the esteemed Marit award for the “Most Neatest/Cleanest” category in the weaving competition at the African Weaving Festival (AWeF).
The African Weaving Festival, a celebration of craftsmanship and cultural heritage, provides a platform for talented artisans from across the continent to showcase their skills and traditions. This year’s event, held in EXHIBITION PAVILION ABUJA, saw participation from numerous weaving enthusiasts, making the competition fierce and the victory all the more significant.
The recognition bestowed upon Kano State History and Culture Bureau reaffirms the region’s commitment to preserving and promoting its rich heritage of weaving. The bureau’s dedication to excellence in craftsmanship and maintaining cleanliness of weaving standards has set a benchmark for others to aspire to.
Speaking on the achievement, the Executive Secretary Arc Ahmad Abba Yusuf], of the Kano State History and Culture Bureau, expressed gratitude for the honor and emphasized the importance of preserving traditional weaving practices. “This award is a testament to the talent and hard work of our artisans, as well as our ongoing efforts to uphold the legacy of weaving in Kano State,” Executive Secretary said.
The Marit award not only highlights Kano’s prowess in the art of weaving but also serves as a reminder of the cultural significance attached to this age-old craft. It underscores the role of weaving not just as a means of livelihood but as a symbol of identity and heritage.
