Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed of Bauchi state has observed that 64 years after independence Nigerians have belied the skepticism on the ability to govern themselves.
He noted that against all odds, Nigerians have today shown to the world that they were not only able to govern themselves, but were also able to understand their differences, respect each other’s values and unite towards developing the country despite its socio-cultural heterogeneity.
The Governor however recalled that since attainment of independence in 1960, Nigeria has suffered serious setbacks in the political arena which seriously affected its political and economic growth.
Senator Bala Mohammed in a goodwill message on the occasion of the nation’s 64th Independence anniversary celebration Tuesday, expressed gratitude that today democracy has found its roots in the country.
”It is with deep sense of gratitude to Allah (SWT) that I send you my felicitations on the occasion of the 64th Independence Anniversary of our dear country on 1st October, 2024. We should all give gratitude to Allah for sparing our lives to witness yet another anniversary”.
He also stated, “The dividends of democracy are manifest and the citizens are happy. We in Bauchi State have taken a multi-dimensional approach to all the developmental projects which resulted in success all round, particularly in infrastructural development”.
“Having been granted another mandate by the good people of Bauchi State to run the affairs of the State for another four years, I want to assure you that we will redouble our effort and work harder to provide more dividends of democracy than we did during our first term”.
The Governor called on citizens of the state to exercise more patience and cooperate with the state government in its effort to bring succor to all of them, reassuring that the palliative measures taken by both the State and Federal Governments to mitigate hardships through provision of food and non-food items would be sustained.
He commended the people for their perseverance in the face of the current economic hardship that has made life unbearable, saying “The 64th Independence Anniversary should be used to reflect on the struggle and sacrifice of the founding fathers of this country and also strive to ensure that their labour shall not be in vain”.
Senator Mohammed also assured that as a responsible and responsive government, they have taken measures in collaboration with security agencies to protect the lives and property of people by swiftly addressing any form of security challenge.
He appealed to citizens to re-dedicate themselves to the development of the country, be patriotic and continue to pray to Almighty Allah to shower His mercy and blessings on all so as to continue to live in peace with one another and make Bauchi state and country great.
