Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, has vowed to strengthen security around Kaoje and neighbouring communities in Bagudo Local Government Area following deadly attacks that claimed several lives, destroyed property and displaced residents.
The governor, who expressed deep sorrow over the incident, said the state government would take additional measures to protect residents and prevent a recurrence of the attacks.
Speaking during a visit to the affected communities, Idris condoled with families who lost loved ones and sympathised with residents whose homes and property were destroyed.
He described the killing of innocent citizens as unacceptable, assuring the people that both the state and Federal Governments were committed to restoring peace and protecting lives and property.
The governor appealed to residents to remain calm, law-abiding and supportive of security agencies as intensified efforts were being made to address the security challenges in the area.
As part of the immediate response, Idris disclosed that he had constituted a committee comprising security officials and other relevant stakeholders to assess the situation and recommend additional measures needed to restore lasting peace to Kaoje and surrounding communities.
The governor also announced an additional N100 million in financial assistance for victims of the attacks, bringing the total support provided by the Kebbi State Government to N200 million.
He said the gesture was aimed at cushioning the hardship faced by affected families and assisting them in recovering from the devastating impact of the attacks.
Idris further revealed that arrangements had been concluded for the deployment of three security units to strengthen security around the affected communities.
According to him, the state government had also ordered the procurement of additional operational vehicles for security agencies to enhance their mobility and response capabilities.
The governor said Kebbi would continue to collaborate with federal lawmakers and other stakeholders to secure additional security support for the affected areas.
He stressed that the government would not relent in its efforts to safeguard communities across the state, particularly areas facing security threats.
The latest measures, according to the governor, are part of broader efforts to reassure residents, strengthen security operations and create conditions for displaced communities to return to normal life.
He urged the people of Kaoje and neighbouring communities to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies by providing useful information that could assist in preventing further attacks.
The governor reiterated his administration’s commitment to protecting lives and property, saying the government would continue to take decisive steps to restore confidence and peace in the affected communities.
