Former Kogi West Senator, Dino Melaye, has thrown a fresh challenge at President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, daring him to a Quranic citation competition immediately after his return from the lesser Hajj (Umrah).
Melaye, popularly associated with the initials SDM, made the declaration in a pointed statement that has added a religious dimension to the ongoing political exchanges surrounding the President.
The former lawmaker challenged Tinubu to an open contest on Quranic citations, insisting that nobody should make a mockery of God.
“Now that Alhaji Bola Tinubu is in Umrah, immediately he comes back, I challenge him to a Quranic citation competition with me. No one can mock God,” Melaye declared.
The challenge comes amid political conversations involving the President’s religious identity and public engagements, with Melaye using the opportunity to question the place of Quranic knowledge in the debate.
Although the former senator did not disclose the proposed format or date of the competition, his statement has placed the spotlight on a potentially controversial exchange between two prominent Nigerian political figures.
Whether President Tinubu will respond to the challenge remains to be seen.
