How We Foiled Attempt to Remove Akpabio — Senator Orji Uzor Kalu

Borno State Government

Former Abia State Governor and Senator representing Abia North, Orji Uzor Kalu, has revealed that there was an attempt by some lawmakers to remove the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, but it was successfully thwarted by a group of senators who stood in his defence.

Speaking to journalists at the National Assembly in Abuja, Senator Kalu explained that the Senate remains united and focused on supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration through meaningful legislation aimed at reviving Nigeria’s economy.

“There was a move to impeach Akpabio, but we resisted it. The Senate is one, and we are working together for the progress of this country,” Kalu stated.

He emphasized that lawmakers are committed to passing laws that will improve the living conditions of Nigerians, saying:

“Our goal is to make sure Nigerians can eat three square meals a day. That’s why we are here — to make life better for our people.”

The senator also hinted that Anambra State Governor, Professor Charles Soludo, might soon join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), describing him as a progressive-minded leader.

“Soludo is a forward-thinking man, and eventually, he has no choice but to join us,” Kalu said.

On the political future of President Tinubu, Senator Kalu expressed confidence that the president will win a second term, arguing that no opposition party currently poses a serious challenge to his administration.

“President Tinubu will get a second term because there is no strong opposition against him,” he added.

Kalu’s remarks come amid recent political speculations about divisions within the Senate and shifting alliances among top politicians across Nigeria’s major parties.
