The Emir of Gusau and Chairman of the Zamfara State Council of Chiefs, Alhaji Attahiru Muhammad Ahmad, has dismissed reports linking him to claims about the origins of banditry in Zamfara, describing the publications as false, misleading and a gross misrepresentation of his remarks.
Speaking to journalists, the monarch said the reports relied on an old discussion on farmer-herder conflicts and wrongly attributed comments made by a former Miyetti Allah leader to him.
Ahmad stressed that his past remarks focused on the historical farmer-herder crisis and should not be confused with today’s security challenges, which now involve kidnapping, killings and cattle rustling.
He urged media organisations to withdraw the reports and uphold professional journalism, warning that distorted narratives could undermine public understanding, strain relationships with neighbouring countries and distract from ongoing efforts to combat insecurity.
