Terror struck a community in Benue State as armed men launched a deadly midnight raid on a royal palace, gunning down a traditional ruler, his wife, and three other persons in a brazen attack that has sent shockwaves across the state.
Eyewitness accounts said the assailants, heavily armed, stormed the palace under the cover of darkness, opening fire and leaving multiple casualties before fleeing the scene.
The monarch and his wife were among those killed instantly, while three others—believed to be palace aides—also lost their lives in the gruesome assault.
Security agencies have since launched a manhunt for the perpetrators, while tension remains high in the area amid fears of possible reprisals.
Authorities are yet to confirm the motive behind the attack, though residents described it as a targeted and coordinated strike.
The incident adds to growing security concerns in parts of Benue, where communities have continued to grapple with violent attacks, prompting renewed calls for stronger protection and swift justice.
