Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, has called on stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to embrace unity, discipline, and consensus ahead of the party’s forthcoming primaries.
The Governor made the call today at a stakeholders’ meeting convened to review preparations for the upcoming primary elections.
Governor Radda reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to inclusive governance and sustained engagement with party members and citizens, stressing that collective responsibility remains essential in strengthening the party structure.
He noted that the ongoing consideration of a consensus arrangement aligns with recent high-level consultations with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
“The APC Chairman’s position reflects our recent discussions with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on adopting consensus where possible and conducting primaries where necessary, in order to ensure stability within the party,” the Governor stated.
According to him, the consensus approach would help reduce internal disputes, strengthen unity, and improve coordination across party structures.
“This approach will enhance cooperation, promote unity, and sustain our progress as a political party,” he added.
Governor Radda cautioned aspirants against unnecessary spending on nomination processes, stressing that leadership is a responsibility that must be handled with sincerity, honesty, and accountability.
“Leadership is a responsibility that must be carried out with honesty, humility, and a strong sense of duty,” he said.
He further urged party members to prioritize the interest of the party above personal ambitions and to support credible candidates who truly reflect the will of the people.
“We must ensure that those who emerge as candidates genuinely represent the aspirations of our people,” he emphasized.
The Governor also reiterated his administration’s commitment to fairness, transparency, and inclusiveness in both governance and internal party processes.
“We remain committed to free, fair, and credible processes that will further strengthen our democracy,” he assured.
He warned against actions capable of creating division or tension within the party, urging members to uphold discipline, mutual respect, and unity at all levels.
Governor Radda further called for intensified grassroots mobilisation, encouraging members to strengthen engagement at polling unit levels to consolidate APC support across the state.
“We must reconnect with our people, strengthen our grassroots base, and move forward together,” he concluded.
Earlier, the APC State Chairman, Alhaji Bashir Gambo Saulawa, appreciated stakeholders for their continued support and reaffirmed the party’s readiness for the primaries.
He announced that the party’s timetable for the primaries has been officially released to guide all related activities.
“The timetable provides clear direction for all processes leading to the primaries,” he said.
Saulawa explained that the party would adopt the consensus option where necessary, following extensive consultations with stakeholders.
“This approach will strengthen cohesion, reduce disputes, and promote unity within the party,” he noted.
He also announced the constitution of key committees to ensure fairness, inclusiveness, and due process. These include the Consensus and Reconciliation Committees, chaired by Hon. Aminu Bello Masari, with former Governor Ibrahim Shehu Shema serving as co-chair.
He further disclosed the formation of three Zonal Consensus Committees: Katsina Zone chaired by Senator Ibrahim Ida, Funtua Zone chaired by Hon. Tukur Ahmed Jikamshi, and Daura Zone chaired by Arc. Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, as well as an Affirmation Committee.
Saulawa noted that several states have successfully adopted the consensus model, expressing confidence in its effectiveness in strengthening party unity.
“Many states have successfully implemented consensus arrangements, and we are confident this will work for us as well,” he said.
He urged party members to remain united and committed to achieving electoral success.
“We must work together with unity of purpose to ensure successful primaries and victory in the elections,” he concluded.
The meeting was attended by the Deputy Governor, Hon. Faruk Lawal; Speaker of the Katsina State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Nasir Yahaya Daura; former Deputy Governor, Hon. Tukur Ahmed Jikamshi; Minister of Works and Housing/Urban Development, Engr. Dr. Muttaka Rabe Darma; Minister of Art and Culture, Hon. Hannatu Musa Musawa; former Minister, Arc. Ahmed Musa Dangiwa and the Wazirin Katsina, Senator Ibrahim Ida.
Also present were all three Senators from Katsina State, members of the National Assembly and State House of Assembly, APC National Legal Adviser, Barr. Murtala Aliyu Kankia, Chief of Staff to the Governor, Hon. Abdulkadir Mamman Nasir, Principal Private Secretary to the Governor, Hon. Abdullahi Aliyu Turaji, and business mogul Dahiru Barau Mangal.
Others included the Coordinator of AUDA-NEPAD, Hon. Salisu Tsauri, all 34 Local Government Chairmen, APC Local Government Chairmen, and other stakeholders from across the state.
