BIRNIN KEBBI — Kebbi State Governor, Dr. Nasir Idris, has pledged his administration’s continued partnership with the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, particularly in strengthening security, promoting cultural heritage and advancing national development.
Governor Idris made the commitment on Wednesday when he received participants of the NIPSS Senior Executive Course 48, who visited the Government House, Birnin Kebbi, as part of their study tour of the state.
The governor assured the delegation that Kebbi remained open to partnerships with credible institutions working to promote peace, development and national cohesion.
He urged the participants to extend their tour to Zuru and Yauri, where, he said, they would gain firsthand knowledge of the state’s diverse cultural traditions and heritage.
Governor Idris highlighted Kebbi’s major cultural attractions, including the internationally acclaimed Argungu Fishing Festival, Uhola Cultural Festival in Zuru, Yauri Regatta and Hutogo Festival in the Gwandu Emirate.
According to him, the festivals represent important symbols of Kebbi’s rich history, traditions and cultural identity, adding that they also offer opportunities for tourism development and economic growth.
The governor also approved several requests presented by the NIPSS delegation, including support for the construction of a residential flat at the institute’s Kuru campus and financial assistance towards strengthening security at the institution.
He further approved other requests put forward by the delegation and commended NIPSS for maintaining its reputation for credibility, integrity and excellence in policy and strategic studies.
Earlier, the team leader and Acting Director of Studies at NIPSS, Barrister Nima Salman, said the visit formed part of the study tour for Senior Executive Course 48, designed to expose participants to the cultural values, heritage and development potentials of Kebbi State.
Salman presented requests from the Director-General of NIPSS, including a request for Governor Idris to attend the presentation of the Course 48 report as well as the turbaning ceremony of Professor Muhammad Bande as the District Head of Besse.
She explained that the 2026 Senior Executive Course 48 is focused on the theme, “Leveraging the Orange Economy and Entrepreneurship for Sustainable Growth in Nigeria.”
The theme places emphasis on harnessing creativity, entrepreneurship and Nigeria’s cultural assets as tools for sustainable economic development.
The visit further underscored the growing importance of collaboration between policy institutions and state governments in developing practical strategies for security, cultural preservation and sustainable national growth.
