Gov Aliyu solicit governors collaborative efforts against security challenges

Gov. Ahmed Aliyu of Sokoto state on Saturday solicited for collaborative efforts from northern state governors to tackle security challenges bedeviling the region.

Aliyu made the call at the inauguration of Community Guards Corps (CGC) after three months training by the state government part of it’s efforts to tackle security challenges in the state.

He also inaugurated 30 Hilux vehicles and motorcycles along with other working items to be use by the Corps for successful operations across the state.

He identified collective action and support for conventional security agencies as crucial in addressing the national security challenges.

The governor also expressed concerns about frequent bandit attacks in the state, resulting in casualties, displacement, and abductions of people.

Aliyu identified armed banditry as the most pressing issue in northern states, urging prompt attention from all levels of government.

He stressed that CGC initiative by state governments aimed at complementing the activities of statutory agencies as community policing serve as best strategy in the present times.

” I want to assure the residents that we are on track and we will continue to fulfill our pledge toward ensuring a secured and habitable environment for all,” he said.

He assured more support to CGC personnel and urged them to consider thier status as a trust to selfless service in order to safeguard citizens.

In his remark, the Chairman of Northwest states governors and Katsina State governor, Dr Dikko Radda, admonished the trained community guards to be responsible, committed and fearless in the service to the humanity.

Radda called on President Bola Tunubu to support the states on CGC operations and other security challenges bedeviling the areas.

Special Guest, Retired Gen. Aliyu Gusau, described the initiative as commendable toward improving safety of the citizens, adding that security issues should a collective responsibility.

Gusau urged citizens and stakeholders to support the initiative and ensure that community members cooperate with corps.

Former Sokoto state governor, Sen. Aliyu Wamakko, commended the resilience of Gov. Ahmad Aliyu, on his efforts to improve citizens wellbeing and further lauded the collaboration of state governors on the struggle.

Wamakko enjoined the trained Corps to uphold the trust bestowed on them and ensure diligent services to the state as well as the country.

Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, assured traditional rulers supports in order to achieve the desired success of the Corps activities, noting that leaders need to promote peace and development at all situations.

Abubakar advised authorities to consider joining kinetic and non kinetic strategies in confronting security challenges.

He appealed to citizens to continue supporting the government through prayers and sharing information to foster a secure state.

The Newsmen reports that the occasion was also attended by governors of Benue, Plateau, Bauchi, Jigawa, Kano, Kebbi and Zamfara states among others.
