The Gombe State Police Command has taken security closer to the people with the commissioning of a new Divisional Police Headquarters in Gwani, Yamaltu Deba East Local Council Development Area.

The new division, commissioned on Tuesday by the Commissioner of Police, CP Umar Ahmed Chuso, is expected to strengthen community policing, improve intelligence gathering and enhance the Police response to security challenges in Gwani and neighbouring communities.

Speaking at the ceremony, CP Chuso described the new division as a major milestone in the Command’s efforts to expand policing services and ensure that residents have easier access to security authorities.

He commended the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, for approving the establishment of the division, saying the decision would further reinforce security at the grassroots.

The Commissioner also acknowledged the support of the Gombe State Government, traditional rulers, community leaders, the Gwani Community Development Association and other stakeholders whose contributions facilitated the project.

CP Chuso Sets Tough Standards

Addressing officers and men deployed to the new division, CP Chuso charged them to uphold professionalism, discipline and accountability while respecting the fundamental rights of citizens.

He directed the personnel to maintain a strong presence across their area of responsibility, strengthen intelligence networks and respond promptly to reports of crime and other security threats.

The Commissioner said effective policing depended heavily on the cooperation of residents, urging the people of Gwani and surrounding communities to provide credible and timely information that could help prevent crime before it occurs.

He further called on traditional and religious leaders, youth organisations, business owners, members of the Police Community Relations Committee and other stakeholders to work closely with the Police to sustain peace.

CP Chuso also urged community leaders to discourage youths from criminality and violent activities, stressing that security remained a shared responsibility.

He assured residents that the Command would continue to pursue proactive and intelligence-led policing, while strengthening community partnerships to make Gombe State safer.

The commissioning attracted government officials, local government and council development area chairmen, the Commissioner for Trade, Industry and Tourism, the Emir of Yamaltu, traditional and religious leaders, youth representatives, members of the Police Community Relations Committee, journalists and other stakeholders.

The Police Command called for sustained collaboration between security agencies and residents, saying stronger community partnerships would be critical to consolidating peace and security in Gwani and across Gombe State.
