The Police Service Commission (PSC) has confirmed the dismissal of five police officers, including ASP Nuhu, over their involvement in the killing of 28-year-old Mene Ogidi in Effurun, Delta State.
The Nigeria Police Force announced the decision on Sunday, stating that it followed the conclusion of internal disciplinary proceedings which found the officers culpable in the April 26, 2026 incident.
Force spokesperson Anthony Okon Placid said the dismissal takes immediate effect, adding that the case has been forwarded to the Office of the Attorney General of the Federation for vetting and prosecution.
Investigations by the Police Monitoring Unit revealed that the officers’ actions amounted to professional misconduct, abuse of office, and conduct likely to breach public peace—ultimately leading to the unlawful killing of the victim.
Police authorities stressed that no suspicion of crime justifies extrajudicial action, reiterating that all suspects are entitled to due process under the law.
Details of the incident indicate that the deceased had received a parcel from Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, allegedly containing a fabricated pistol and live ammunition. He was apprehended by members of the public and handed over to police, but ASP Nuhu reportedly shot him instead of following due procedure.
The police also confirmed that other individuals linked to the case—including a delivery driver and two vigilante members—are currently at large, with efforts ongoing to arrest them.
The remains of the victim have been deposited in a mortuary, with an autopsy expected as part of the prosecution process.
The Force extended condolences to the victim’s family and assured Nigerians that justice will be pursued, emphasizing that no officer, regardless of rank, will be shielded from accountability.
