The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Canadian High Commission in Nigeria have renewed their commitment to strengthening the fight against the growing menace of visa fraud in the country.
The renewed resolve was made on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, when the Migration Programme Manager of the Canadian High Commission in Nigeria, Marie-Claire Lemay, paid a courtesy visit to the Acting Zonal Director of the EFCC, Lagos Zonal Directorate 2, Assistant Commander of the EFCC, ACE I Bawa Usman Kaltungo.
Kaltungo, while welcoming Lemay, acknowledged the increasing interest among Nigerians in travelling to Canada, stressing the need for stronger collaboration to prevent fraudsters from exploiting prospective travellers.
The meeting focused on deepening cooperation between both institutions in tackling fraudulent visa-related activities and protecting Nigerians from falling victim to migration scams.
The EFCC and the Canadian mission are expected to sustain information sharing and other collaborative measures aimed at identifying and curbing individuals involved in visa fraud.
The development comes amid growing concerns over fraudulent travel schemes targeting Nigerians seeking opportunities to visit, study or relocate to Canada.
The EFCC urged members of the public to remain vigilant and deal only with legitimate channels when processing travel and visa applications.
