The Department of State Services (DSS) has joined other security agencies in investigating the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) over the management of a N17 billion Federal Government intervention fund released to support players’ wages and bonuses.
The development has heightened scrutiny around the use of the funds, with investigators expected to examine how the money was received, disbursed and utilised by the football governing body.
The probe, according to reports, is focused on establishing whether the intervention funds were applied strictly for the purposes for which they were approved, particularly the payment of outstanding wages, bonuses and other related obligations to Nigerian football players.
The DSS is now working alongside other security and investigative agencies as part of efforts to unravel the circumstances surrounding the handling of the substantial public funds.
The investigation could also involve a review of financial records, payment schedules and other documents connected to the disbursement of the N17 billion.
As the probe progresses, the NFF may be required to provide explanations and supporting documents detailing how the intervention package was spent.
