A philanthropist, Alhaji Murtala Abdulkadir, has donated 5 operational vehicles to the Sokoto State Hisbah and Zakkat Commissions to ease their activities.
The Newsmen reports that the philanthropist also donated 12,000 bags of rice and bales of clothing materials for onward distribution to less privileged persons across the 23 Local Government Areas of Sokoto State.
Abdulkadir, who holds the traditional titles of Dallatun Sokoto and Dan’Iyan Jarma, said the vehicles donation was part of his efforts to assist the commissions in their routine humanitarian activities in the state.
He said the commissions played key roles in restoring virtues, especially among youths, as well as supporting less privileged persons and persons with disabilities in the state.
He appealed to the authorities to ensure the judicious use of the vehicles and assured of more support to enhance their services.
On the food items and clothing materials, Abdulkadir said the items were part of his routine support aimed at cushioning the present challenges faced by citizens, especially those affected by security challenges across the state.
He said the gesture was also to complement federal and state government efforts, adding that good arrangements had been made to ensure adequate and even distribution.
Responding, the Chairman of the Zakkat Commission, Alhaji Lawal Maidoki, commended the philanthropist for the initiative, saying it would surely enhance the commission’s activities and uplift the well-being of the people.
Maidoki enjoined other wealthy individuals to emulate Dallatun Sokoto with the initiative and assured of the judicious use of the vehicles and the distribution of the commodities to deserving people.
Also speaking, the District Head of Gagi, Alhaji Sani Umar-Jabbi, described the gesture as timely, stressing that some less privileged persons faced hardship, especially in the hinterland.
Umar-Jabbi stressed that the support would augment government intervention programmes and cautioned that beneficiaries should ensure their respective families benefit from the items.(
