The Nigeria Customs Service has dealt a major blow to cross-border smuggling syndicates, arresting five suspects and intercepting illegal animal parts, petroleum products and other contraband with a combined Duty Paid Value (DPV) of ₦362 million during coordinated operations in Adamawa and Taraba states.
The high-profile seizures, carried out through intelligence-driven operations at strategic border locations, underscore the agency’s renewed determination to protect Nigeria’s economy, preserve wildlife, and dismantle illicit trade networks operating across the North-East.
Customs authorities disclosed that the operations led to the recovery of prohibited wildlife products, illegally transported Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), and other smuggled goods believed to have been destined for both local and international black markets.
Five suspects were taken into custody in connection with the seizures and are expected to face prosecution as investigations continue to uncover the syndicates behind the illegal activities.
Officials described the operation as a significant victory in the ongoing campaign against economic sabotage, stressing that smuggling not only deprives the government of vital revenue but also threatens national security, environmental conservation, and legitimate businesses.
The Service reaffirmed that intelligence-led enforcement would be intensified across Nigeria’s border corridors, warning smugglers that there would be no safe haven for those engaged in illegal trade.
