CRIME CRACKDOWN IN A’IBOM: Police Nab 5 Suspects, Recover Gun, Drugs in Uyo Raids

Borno State Government

The Nigeria Police Force has scored a major breakthrough in its ongoing war against crime, arresting five suspects and recovering a firearm alongside suspected drugs in coordinated operations across Uyo and Ibesikpo Asutan.

Acting on credible intelligence, operatives swooped on a notorious gang hotspot in Uyo, arresting one Ofonime Tom, alleged to be part of a criminal network terrorizing residents in areas including Michael Abraham Street and Nkemba Street. A search reportedly led to the recovery of a locally made pistol, reinforcing suspicions of his involvement in armed activities.

In a separate operation, police stormed a known criminal hideout in Ikot Mbou, Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Area, leading to the arrest of four additional suspects. Items recovered at the scene included substances suspected to be Indian hemp, cash, multiple mobile phones, and sharp objects believed to be used in criminal acts.

Authorities say preliminary findings indicate the location served as a hub for illicit drug distribution and other illegal operations.

Commissioner of Police, Baba Mohammed Azare, reaffirmed the command’s zero tolerance for crime, warning offenders to desist or face decisive action.

All suspects are currently in custody as investigations intensify, with efforts underway to track down fleeing accomplices and dismantle wider criminal networks.

The command has urged residents to remain vigilant and continue providing useful information, assuring that Akwa Ibom remains firmly hostile ground for criminal elements.
