The Nigeria Police Force in Akwa Ibom State has intensified its push for community-driven security, as Commissioner of Police Baba Mohammed Azare convened a high-level stakeholders’ town hall meeting in Uyo, reaffirming a hardline stance against crime.
The strategic engagement, held at the Uyo Area Command on April 24, drew a wide spectrum of participants, including security chiefs, traditional rulers, transport unions, youth groups, market leaders, political actors, and government officials—underscoring a united front against criminality.
CP Azare said the meeting aligns with the directive of Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Rilwan Disu to deepen community policing and strengthen trust between law enforcement and the public.
Describing security as a shared responsibility, the police boss urged residents to remain vigilant and proactive in reporting suspicious activities, stressing that intelligence-led policing remains the most potent weapon against crime.
He also issued a firm warning to political actors, insisting that all rallies and gatherings must receive prior police approval to ensure adequate security coordination. Unlawful assemblies or actions capable of disrupting public peace, he warned, would be met with decisive enforcement.
In a strong message on accountability, Azare encouraged citizens to report misconduct by officers through official complaint channels, pledging professionalism, transparency, and respect for human rights.
The command said the engagement further strengthened collaboration with sister security agencies, reinforcing readiness to maintain law and order across the state.
Authorities assured residents that the police remain fully prepared and strategically positioned to safeguard lives and property, calling for continued public cooperation in the fight against crime.
