ABUJA — A Federal High Court in Abuja on Monday ordered the remand of Omoyele Sowore, presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), at the Kuje Correctional Centre pending the hearing and determination of his application challenging the revocation of his bail.
The order was issued by Justice Mohammed Umar after the court dismissed an application filed by Sowore seeking the judge’s withdrawal from the case over allegations of bias.
Sowore had urged the court to recuse itself from further proceedings, arguing that circumstances surrounding the matter raised concerns about impartiality. However, Justice Umar rejected the request, ruling that there was no sufficient basis to warrant his withdrawal from the case.
Following the ruling, the court directed that the AAC chieftain be remanded at the Kuje Correctional Centre while legal proceedings over the disputed bail revocation continue.
The development marks another twist in the legal battle involving the activist and former presidential candidate, whose court appearances have continued to attract public attention and political debate.
Legal observers noted that the focus of the proceedings will now shift to Sowore’s substantive application challenging the decision to revoke his bail, a matter expected to determine his immediate freedom pending the conclusion of the case.
