Court Orders Remand of Dismissed ASP Usman, Others Over Death of Suspect in Delta

Borno State Government

A Magistrate Court sitting in Delta State has ordered the remand of a dismissed Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Usman, and several other police officers over their alleged involvement in the death of a suspect in custody.

The defendants, who were arraigned on charges connected to the death of a suspect during police operations, were directed to be remanded at the Delta State Correctional Centre pending further hearing of the case.

According to court proceedings, the incident that led to the charges raised serious concerns over alleged misconduct and abuse of authority by the officers while the suspect was in custody.

The prosecution told the court that investigations had been concluded, leading to the filing of charges against the dismissed officer and his colleagues, whose actions allegedly resulted in the suspect’s death.

Defense counsel, however, is expected to challenge the remand order at the next hearing, as the case continues to draw public attention amid growing calls for accountability and reform within law enforcement agencies.

The court adjourned the matter to a later date for further hearing, while ordering that all the accused persons remain in custody pending the continuation of trial.
