The inter-school football competition organized by the Borno State Ministry of Local Education concluded today in Maiduguri.
The competition featured participants from schools across the state, with the final match held at Government College Maiduguri, the state capital.
While speaking on the event, Commissioner for Education Hon. Eng. Lawan Abba Wakilbe praised Bulumkutu Junior Secondary School for winning the final game and also appreciated the efforts of all participating schools.
He assured that all state government schools across the state would be included in next year’s tournament.
Hon. Wakilbe encouraged Umarari Junior Secondary School, which took second place, to stay positive and emphasized the importance of sportsmanship. He commended the teachers for preparing the students, noting that their efforts have showcased the potential of public schools.
In his remarks, Education Secretary Dr. Umar Goni praised the girls for their excellent performance in athletics, highlighting that 50% of the players were girls. He mentioned that such participation is motivating and stressed the importance of integrating sports into the school curriculum, which has been neglected for over 20 years.
Earlier, on behalf of the coaches, Isa Ibrahim of Bulumkutu Junior Secondary School expressed happiness at winning and urged those who did not participate to strive harder in next year’s tournament.
Bulumkutu Junior Secondary School took the first position, while Umarari Junior Secondary School secured the second place in the football match.
