Chadian authorities have returned a giant Seba python to the wild, releasing the reptile into a waterway inside the Zah Soo National Park as part of ongoing efforts to protect wildlife and preserve the country’s natural ecosystems.
The development was announced on Thursday, September 17, 2026, by Chad’s Minister of the Environment, Hassan Bakhit Djamous, in a statement shared on his official Facebook page.
According to the minister, the python was successfully released into a waterway within the protected national park, where it is expected to thrive in a suitable natural habitat.
The authorities, however, did not disclose where the reptile was rescued from or explain the circumstances surrounding its relocation to the park.
The Seba python, commonly known as the African rock python, is among Africa’s largest snake species. It is known to inhabit a variety of environments, including wetlands, grasslands and areas close to rivers and other water sources.
The relocation forms part of broader wildlife conservation efforts aimed at protecting native species and ensuring that rescued animals are returned to environments capable of supporting their survival.
